Where the Moon actually was.

The Moon moves about 13° a day, so it changes sign every two and a half days. Your rashi cannot be worked out from your birth date alone — it has to be computed.

Find your moon sign

Set to sidereal, which is what "rashi" means in Vedic astrology. Your Moon sign appears in the summary at the top of the chart.

Why the time matters here too

The Moon covers roughly half a degree an hour. Across a full day it moves 12–15°, which is nearly half a sign. If the Moon changed sign on your birth day, the time decides which rashi you get. A date-only lookup simply guesses.

Without a birth time we compute for noon, and we say so. That is right about four days in five and wrong the rest. So we tell you, rather than present it as certain.

Rashi versus sun sign

Western astrology treats the Sun sign as the headline. Vedic astrology treats the Moon sign as primary. Daily rashifal, dasha periods and marriage matching are all keyed to the Moon, not the Sun. If you have been reading Western horoscopes by your Sun sign, the Vedic one is usually a different sign entirely.

Your Moon's nakshatra also comes out of this calculation, which is whatdasha timingandAshtakoota matchingare built from.
