How common is this?

Mars lands in one of the six counted houses in a large share of charts. Our own sampling puts it above 40% once all three references are allowed. It is common, not exceptional. Traditions also disagree about which houses and which reference should count at all.

We don’t sell remedies

These three terms drive most of the gemstone and puja trade. A calculator that frightens you into buying something is the thing we said we would not build. You get the placement and the context. What you do with it is yours.

The rule, in full

Mars is said to afflict six of the twelve houses. Whether your chart counts depends entirely on which point you measure those houses from — and the three schools do not agree.

From the lagna

The most widely used reference. Houses counted from your rising sign.

From the Moon

Preferred across much of North India, and the reference used when the birth time is uncertain.

From Venus

Added by some schools because Venus signifies marriage. The least universal of the three.

The counted houses are the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th. Some traditions drop the 2nd; some southern schools add the 5th. We use the six above, from all three references, and show each separately rather than collapsing them into one answer.

How common it is

This is the part the remedy trade never puts in front of you. We ran 5,000 randomly generated births between 1950 and 2025 through the same engine that reads your chart, and counted:

Why it comes out at exactly half

There is no mystery in the 49.5%. The rule counts six houses out of twelve, and Mars is spread fairly evenly around the zodiac. So it lands in one of them about half the time. Allow all three references and you are asking whether any of three near-coin-flips came up heads — which is why the figure climbs to roughly nine people in ten.

A property shared by nearly everybody is not a diagnosis. Suppose you have been told you are manglik, and that it will cost you a marriage. The number above is the context that was left out of the telling.
